It is a tradition for new students at TU Ilmenau to hike up Ilmenau's most famous mountain during Freshers' Week. ``The Kickelhahn will watch over you throughout your studies, so you should have climbed it at least once. Even the old Goethe appreciated the breathtaking view from 861m above sea level. Inspired by the view of the sleepy little town on the edge of the Thuringian Forest, he wrote the famous poem “Wanderers' Night Song” in Goethe's little house on the Kickelhahn.
By the end of their studies at the Technical University, every student should have climbed the famous Ilmenau Kickelhahn at least once. Because if you believe the student myths, otherwise you won't successfully complete your studies here - and that would be a shame.
That's why we're going to hike up the Kickelhahn with you on Tuesday to avert disaster. Your tutor will let you know where to start in good time.
As a reward there will be the first note of your young student life, music from the student radio station hsf and of course lots of fun during your ascent together.
So put on your hiking boots and windproof clothes and off you go! Don't forget the Ersti badge!
